The Housing Authority of The City of Paterson (PHA) is a public, not-for-profit community organization founded in 1941. The PHA is well known for the quality of housing as well as the quality of programs we offer to our residents

For more than 60 years, the Housing Authority has played a key role in providing housing options for low and moderate-income residents in the City of Paterson.

The Housing Authority employs a staff of 150 and has an annual budget of about $9 million. Funding is obtained from rental fees, and HUD.

Through our services and operations, the Housing Authority has a significant impact on the local economy and on the hundreds of participating families receiving housing rental assistance.


Highlights of the economic impact of the Housing Authority in the City of Paterson:

Pays $1.9 million annually in subsidies to private landlords for residents in the Voucher / Certificate Section 8 Program.

Makes more than 800 payments each month in rental subsidies to private landlords.

Has paid $50,000 of property taxes from 1996 to 1999. Pays an average of about $15,000 per year in lieu of property taxes.

Has injected $29 million into the local economy for construction costs between 1995 to 2000.

Has a 7 member Board of Commissioners appointed by the Mayor, City and Governors office. The day-to-day direction of the organization is under the management of our Executive Director.
