Community Service - helping yourself or others in the community.

A letter was recently sent to all heads of households, at both the Alexander Hamilton and Riverside Terrace Developments, explaining that the Community Service Requirements for residents of public housing had been reinstated.

The letter explained that Community Service requires PHA residents to perform eight (8) hours a month of volunteer work or other duties that are for the public benefit and that improve the quality of life, enhance self-sufficiency, and/or increase resident self responsibility in the community.

Individuals who are enrolled in a welfare program, are at least 62 years of age, disabled, a primary caretaker of a disabled person, or employed, are exempt from participating in the Community Service Program

Eligible residents will be receiving a letter indicating the date and time they must visit PHA staff to enroll in the Community Service Program.
